Gastric Weight Loss Surgery

Gastric Bypass Nutrition - Eating After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass nutrition is a big concern following gastric bypass surgery. It is important that you take the time to educate yourself on the post bariatric diet in the weeks preceding your gastric bypass operation. It is essential you understand what you are allowed to eat and what will have to wait until after recovery. You will also want to shop for these products and have them on hand for your return from the hospital.

Having gastric bypass surgery can be an exciting time for many patients. Their life is about to change drastically over the next few years. Making changes in your eating habits will determine how much weight you lose and how much you are able to keep off. Even following obesity surgery, it is all about lifestyle changes.

Following surgery, you will be on clear liquids. When you go home, your choices will be baby food, pureed food or liquid protein. I opted mostly for liquid protein. The idea of eating baby food did not sound good to me and pureeing salmon or chicken was unnatural. I didn’t care for it. I experimented the first few days and stuck with protein shakes for the duration of the first 2 weeks.

Protein is what is important in the early stages of recovery. It will help you heal and regain your strength. You should have about 60 grams per day. A chewable vitamin is also necessary for all the other nutrients that you need that you cannot get from food. After the first few months, many gastric bypass patients will switch to prenatal vitamins.

Soft foods can be reintroduced back into your diet at about 2 weeks. It is necessary to chew your food thoroughly. I heard a lot about this in my presurgery classes and at that time it does not have much of an impact. But if you do not follow this simple suggestion, you are going to find yourself in severe pain. It is hard to remember to chew the food well, because most people are not used to eating that way. It will only take one time of forgetting and you probably won’t forget a second time. more…

Stomach Weight Loss Surgery

Bariatric Surgery - Bid Goodbye to Your Overweight Woes

Bariatric surgery, also known as obesity weight loss surgery involves surgical manipulation of the stomach to reduce food intake, and, in some cases, to reduce he absorption of calories into the body. Any person whose BMI exceeds 40 is considered morbidly obese and needs bariatric surgery. There are different types of bariatric surgery-

• The Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy- This is a laparoscopic procedure in which few incisions are made through which cameras and sophisticated instruments are inserted. In this procedure, most of the stomach is removed and a “vertical sleeve” or tube is fashioned from the remaining stomach. Since the size of the stomach is smaller, intake of food is reduced. The food does not bypass any of the intestines and hence there is no malabsorption.

• Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Divided Gastric Bypass Surgery- In this procedure, the stomach is separated into two sections using titanium staples. The small upper segment is connected to the esophagus and is the functional segment. The larger lower segment is connected to the duodenum and becomes the non-functional portion of the stomach. Next, most of the small intestine is separated from the stomach and brings it up to the small upper segment of the stomach which is still functional. The opening of this stomach is small and this allows the food to pass directly to the intestine where it is digested.

• Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding- In this procedure, small incisions are made and a silicone band is placed around the stomach which creates a small pouch. The stomach holds less food and thus the person is made to lesser need for food. The band is adjustable and needs to be adjusted 6-8 weeks during the first year after surgery in order to restrict the food intake.

Your surgeon’s help should be sought to decide the type of procedure that suits you best. Bariatric surgery can be a life changing experience and can be the key to a healthy and cheerful lifestyle. All it takes to go ahead with the surgery is to spare around 3-4 days in the hospital and follow a healthy diet as directed by the doctor post-surgery. more…

Weight Loss Surgery Diet

Diet Program Weight Loss - Lose 10 Pounds in 3 Weeks

Need a diet program weight loss strategy… and tips? I’m going to show you how to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks with simple diet changes that’ll still allow you to eat your favorite foods. You won’t starve or feel deprived.

These are so easy that you really have no excuse not to do them.

Diet Program Weight Loss Strategy

1. Eat a lot early, then phase down to small meals

What this means simply is to eat a big breakfast (hopefully with a lot of protein and fiber) and then eat smaller meals for the rest of the day. Heck, you can continue eating all the same calories you normally do.

The only difference, eat more of them early. This allows you to burn them off through the day.

2. Eat apples, bananas, and baby food

Yeah, you read that right. Baby food! They’re small, compact, portion-controlled snacks that are of the highest quality. The government forces manufacturers of baby food to have higher quality than the foods you and I normally eat.

Besides that, apples and bananas are great snacks that help to crowd out “bad calories” with fewer “good” calories.

3. Take organic apple cider vinegar before each meal

It costs $3. It helps to breakdown fats before they get to your stomach. It also slows down the simple sugar carbs from racing into your bloodstream to spike your blood sugar levels. Take 1 tablespoon before each meal. Oh… it tastes horrible.

I’m really picky when it comes to tastes, but you gotta prioritize. If weight loss is important, then use it.

This is a simple diet program. Weight loss strategies like this are really boring, yet they work to the degree that you’d lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks. more…
